Blue Summit Construction started in 2008, when Michael Ingram left his job as a builder to become self employed. He primarily worked for group housing companies throughout Christchurch, whilst steadily growing Blue Summit. After the Canterbury earthquakes in 2011, Blue Summit was managing up to 25 group housing builds at a time - the majority being earthquake rebuilds. 

Something which became obvious to Michael and all Blue Summit staff, was that clients coming to the building sites weren’t particularly happy with the group housing build process. For example, it was often very difficult for them to speak with a Project Manager. Eventually many clients just wanted it all to be over… Some even sold their house without moving into it.

Building should be enjoyable

Being a passionate artisan, Michael wanted to set things right. Building your home is a journey - not necessarily an easy one, but you should finish with the desire to do it again. Blue Summit educates, empowers and supports our clients throughout the building process – that’s our Why. 

Michael or Miranda will guide you through every step of the building process - from design (if that’s where we start with your project), to product selections, and right through to when Blue Summit gives you the keys to your new home, or your extension is completed.

Blue Summit builds wonderful houses and extensions, we manage our suppliers and materials well, adhere to legislations and carry out our work to the highest possible industry standards. However, what drives our every decision (our Why), is that our clients love what they are creating, feel involved in the build process and want to do it again at some point in the future. 

Capacity & consistency

Blue Summit limits the number of home builds and extensions we have on the go at any one time, meaning you get the best possible service and attention to every detail. We build on-budget and finish on time, every time. And the same the team of Certified Builders will work on your home throughout the entire project - this consistency and knowledge of the build is very important.  



As a Certified Builder, Blue Summit Construction’s work is fully guaranteed with the Halo 10 Year Residential Guarantee – underwritten by Lloyd’s of London. Halo is the most comprehensive 10 year residential building guarantee on the market. This unique, independent building cover is only available if you build or renovate with a New Zealand Certified Builders’ approved builder. Plus, if you sell your house within 10 years, the guarantee automatically passes over to the new owner.

The Halo 10 Year Residential Guarantee covers you for:

  • Loss of deposit
  • Extra costs to complete the dwelling
  • Structural defects for 10 years including weather tightness
  • Non-structural defects for 10 years
  • Alternative accommodation requirements

NB: To be covered, Documentation must be completed with Blue Summit Construction and submitted to the insurer. Confirmation of cover being in place, is receiving your Halo 10 Year Residential Guarantee Policy Schedule.

Meet the Team

Michael Ingram

You’ll deal with Michael from the minute construction starts on your house. His years of experience in home renovation and construction will ensure your build or extension continues to move forward smoothly - costing you no more than agreed and completed on time. Michael will also meet you onsite to keep you up to date, and will send photos as your project progresses.

Miranda Knapton

Miranda is your initial contact person when you call or email Blue Summit Construction. She has over 20 years’ customer service experience, and will guide you through the home design, contract and supplier selection stages. This includes choosing colours, flooring, kitchen and any interior finishes you want some assistance with - answering all the questions you have along the way. 

Carolyne Streeter

You will get emails from Carolyne when it's time to make payments. Carolyne also manages all the construction administration to ensure orders are made on time and compliance is adhered to.

The rest of the team are made up of our carpenters and apprentices, who you will meet from time to time when you are on site. Feel free to say hello, they don't bite!
